L6 Trading Standards Professional Apprenticeship Transition Information

ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø has been collaborating with the CSA and ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø leading specialists in weights and measures,
to review the training offering for the Weights and Measures within the Level 6 Trading
Standards Professional (L6 TSP) apprenticeship with the purpose to identify a bridging option
to enable apprentices who wish to obtain the Section 73 certification.

On conclusion of this work, it is recommended that L6 TSP apprentices who wish to transition
to the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø qualification framework to obtain the Section 73 certificate undertake a further 3
days of training and all the weights and measures assessments. The ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø weights and measures
bridging option for L6 TSP apprentices has been approved by ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù꿉۪s lead officer/specialists and
the Qualifications Panel (QP).

Recognising the requirement for flexibility for students and Local Authorities we have provided
three package options for L6 TSP apprentices

Grandfather Rights period for the Qualifications Framework (QF)

The Grandfather Rights period for the Qualifications Framework (QF) will come to an end on 31st December 2024.

Grandfather Rights were initially set up in 2019 to enable candidates who held elements of DCATS and CSCATS to transfer into the QF without having to prove that their qualifications correlated with the current QF via the usual Assessment of Prior Learning route (APL).

As a result, candidates who may be eligible for exemptions under this Grandfather Rights period, are encouraged to register into the QF prior to 1st April 2025.

From 1st April 2025 onwards, candidates wishing to gain exemptions from any units within the QF by virtue of holding elements of DCATS or CSCATS, will be required to complete an APL to have their previous qualifications assessed against the requirements of the QF and to demonstrate that their knowledge is current and up to date.
